This Award is organised under the Centre for Kent History and Heritage as a means of fostering research into Kent’s past and as a way of paying tribute to Ian Coulson. The initial funding was provided as a legacy of the Medieval Canterbury Weekend in 2016 and subsequent support for the fund is provided through the organisation of events by the Centre and through donations as a way of paying tribute to Ian, a good, long-time friend of History and Archaeology at the University.

The first Awards were made in September 2016 and since then almost twenty postgraduates have been helped up to 2023.

Those interested in applying for funding should consult the Award guidelines before downloading the application form.

As well as Awards, the Fund provides the annual Lawrence Lyle Prize to the student who receives the top dissertation mark given for the Taught History MA at CCCU.
