The Lossenham Project is a multidisciplinary community project that draws on professional archaeologists and historians, as well as volunteers for both the archaeological and documentary work. At the heart of this landscape project on the Rother Levels is the medieval Carmelite friary at Lossenham in Newenden parish. The archaeology is run by Isle Heritage CIC and the history is undertaken by volunteers, including several PhD students in the CKHH at CCCU.
This is a co-operative enterprise drawing primarily on probate materials from these parishes in the Levels, the results entered into the wills group's database. Dr Sheila Sweetinburgh facilitates and runs the monthly meetings of the group. Outputs so far have included a study day in 2022, a virtual exhibition and the group is working closely with Tenterden Museum and other local heritage organisations.
