"Community and Conformity, A study of Pluckley 1500-1650"

Research Summary

I am doing a microhistory on the village of Pluckley and its local area. I am using a vast array of local early modern documents, many of which were once part of the Dering Collection to investigate all aspects of life in the period. Edward Dering’s life and household, his interactions and influence on the community are important but so too are the other sections of the society.

Pluckley’s position on the northern edge of the Weald means it had a distinctive character which I am exploring.
