Kent-Related Research Interests

Economic and Social historian of 16th & 17th century Kent. I have a particular interest in micro-economic developments and social trends within towns and the rural economy in Kent. Kinship networks, comparative status of wealth, and hierarchies of influence within local neighbourhoods and the wider community are important areas of research. I'm also interested in the development of rural capitalism and the concepts of Puritanism, religious ideology and social control in early modern England. Recent research has focussed on push factors to migration and the settlement of Kent migrants in New England during the 1630s.
